The Principality of Monaco is a sovereign city-state and a microstate in Western Europe. Situated on the Mediterranean Sea, the principality is bordered by France to the north, the east and the west.
Signed on February 2, 1861, the Franco-Monégasque Treaty officially recognized Monaco’s sovereignty. On May 28, 1993, the principality was admitted to the United Nations.

Prince Albert II, 63, has been reigning as the sovereign prince of Monaco since April 6, 2005. On September 1, 2020, Pierre Dartout, 67, is assumed office as the minister of the principality.
