Marking Hotel Indigo’s debut in Gibraltar, this forthcoming IHG property will draw inspiration from its surroundings for a unique look and feel.
A new façade, a rooftop extension and a destination restaurant and bar promise to set apart this office-to-hotel conversion from the crowd.
An architectural transformation
Hotel Indigo Gibraltar was originally signed by IHG in April 2018 under a franchise with developer Roquebrook, and is currently pencilled in to make its debut in early 2022. Recently, however, construction has been delayed as the project team awaits further financing.
The HdAr-designed scheme, located close to the Old Town and within a five-minute drive of Gibraltar International Airport, involves the conversion and extension of an existing office building, with the addition of four storeys and the replacement of the frame’s façade.
Drawing inspiration from the surroundings
On completion, the new hotel will house 120 guestrooms, some of which will face north towards Spain while others will look out eastwards across the historic Northern Defences.
These guestrooms will be joined by a range of facilities, including a fitness centre and a destination restaurant and bar that’s designed to attract locals as well as hotel guests. The rooftop, moreover, will accommodate a garden with its own bar.
Inspiration will be taken from the surrounding area for the restaurant’s cuisine, as well as for the interior design. In this way, the scheme is expected to embody the Hotel Indigo brand’s commitment to making each property feel distinct.
