The Republic of Vanuatu is an island country in Oceania. Located in the South Pacific Ocean, the country is northeast of New Caledonia, east of Australia and New Guinea, west of Fiji and southeast of the Solomon Islands.
On July 30, 1980, Vanuatu achieved independence from France and the United Kingdom. On September 15, 1981, Vanuatu was admitted to the United Nations.
Vanuatu’s incumbent president Tallis Obed Moses, 64, assumed office on July 6, 2017. Esmon Saimon, 62, was the country’s acting president from June 17, 2017 to July 6, 2017 after the death of former president Baldwin Lonsdale.
