Prime Minister John Key of New Zealand Meets with Wang Yi

On September 5, 2014, Prime Minister John Key of New Zealand met with Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Auckland.

John Key said that the New Zealand-China relations develop well with continuous expanding of economic and trade scale and constant deepening of practical cooperation in other fields. On this basis, New Zealand is willing to raise the bilateral relations to a new level. New Zealand will continue to understand and respect China’s core interests, regards China’s development as New Zealand’s opportunities, and welcomes more Chinese enterprises to invest in New Zealand and more Chinese tourists to travel in New Zealand. New Zealand is willing to continuously conduct the third-party cooperation with China in South Pacific island countries.

Wang Yi said that China and New Zealand have created many “firsts” together in terms of China’s relations with the developed countries, and China-New Zealand cooperation is of pioneering and exemplary significance. Currently, the China-New Zealand relations are at the best period of history. China is willing to work with New Zealand to forge a community of common interests featuring mutual benefit and win-win results for the two countries to achieve common prosperity and common development.

Wang Yi said that China is willing to maintain close high-level exchanges with New Zealand to offer powerful guidance for the development of the China-New Zealand relations. The two sides will expand traditional trade such as agricultural and dairy products, strengthen cooperation in fields of food safety and technology transfer, and cultivate new growth points of cooperation in energy conservation, environmental protection, biological medicine, finance, information technology and other fields, and strengthen people-to-people and cultural exchanges in fields such as education and tourism to make the two peoples good friends who understand each other well. China is willing to maintain communication and cooperation with New Zealand on matters concerning the Pacific island countries.
