These countries include Timor Leste, Papua New Guinea, Fiji, Kiribati, and Samoa.
Court documents, state inquiries, and media coverage have substantiated these claims. Despite public apologies from some bishops and yourself as the leader of the Catholic Church worldwide, there has been a lack of redress for the victims or personal apologies to them. The victims and their families continue to suffer from the traumatic effects of this abuse.
While your church operates through decentralized dioceses across the world, your global corporation – The Holy See – maintains relations with leaders in these vulnerable countries. We urge you to consider taxing your local dioceses and The Holy See in order to provide compensation to these victims and their families. This would demonstrate a commitment by your Church towards justice and amplify the credibility of your words beyond mere apologies.
As someone who understands better than most how actions speak louder than words when it comes to seeking forgiveness from others – we believe that backing up any apologies with substantial actions is a crucial step forward.
