AUSTRALIAN Football League (AFL) Fiji has been commended for promoting the sport in the region.
The pat on the back came from the Australian team, the Flying Boomerang, which played in the Oceania Cup at Albert Park, Suva, last week.
Coach Barry Lawrence said Fiji had led the way in promoting Australia’s top sport.
“In the Oceania Fiji has set the standard in making the sport well known,” he said.
“The development of the sport needs a dedicated team which Fiji has and players who are interested in playing this sport.
“Educating our players and understanding the game is probably the biggest task for the coaches, so in order to make this sport popular, we need to touch on the grassroots level and expose young boys to adapt to this sport.”
The Flying Boomerang is made up of indigenous Australians and the players were selected from their different state clubs.
