Understanding Switzerland
Currency Exchange
Despite being a major European country, Switzerland does not use the Euro. Instead, the Swiss franc (CHF) is the official currency.
While some establishments may accept the Euro as a form of payment, it is likely that you will receive your change in Swiss francs. It is advisable to carry a credit or debit card for convenience when making payments.
Linguistic Diversity
Switzerland boasts four national languages: German, French, Italian, and Romansh (an ancient Latin derivative). Additionally, English is widely spoken throughout the country. This linguistic diversity ensures that language barriers are unlikely to pose significant challenges during your visit.
Time Zones
In Switzerland, two time zones are utilized in accordance with the winter and switzerlandsummer seasons. During winter months, Central European Time (CET) is observed, placing Switzerland an hour ahead of Coordinated Universal Time (UTC+01:00). Conversely, Central European Summer Time (CEST) is adopted during the summer season and places Switzerland two hours ahead of UTC (UTC+02:00).
Climate Overview
The climate in Switzerland varies distinctly across its four seasons – namely summer, autumn, winter and spring.
In January and February, daytime temperatures typically range between 28 – 45°F (2 – 7°C), while July and August see average temperatures ranging from 65 – 82°F (18 – 28°C). Autumn and spring bring milder temperatures between approximately 46° – 59°F (8 – 15°C).
