Princess confirms long awaited details of her return home on special day

Princess Madeleine of Sweden has confirmed she’s heading home as her royal family celebrated a special day for her.

The princess turned 42 on June 10th 2024 and, as she did, a new portrait of her with her husband and children was shared.

As the picture of Madeleine was released, the Swedish royal family also took to social media to confirm that the youngest child of King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia is making a permanent return to her home country very soon.

It was already known that Princess Madeleine and her husband, Chris O’Neill, intended to move back to Sweden from the United States but the return had been delayed.

However, on her special day, Madeleine’s family announced that she would be back in Sweden. In a post on their official Instagram, they noted that ”after several years….Princess Madeleine and Mr. Christopher O’Neill have decided that their family should now reside in Stockholm.”

It means that their three children – Princess Leonore, 10, Prince Nicolas, 9, and Princess Adrienne, 6 – will all go to school in Sweden, one of the stipulations for retaining a place in the line of succession.

At the moment, they are ninth, tenth and eleventh in line to the throne. They have the titles of princess and prince but, like three of their cousins, lost their status of HRH in a shake up announced by their grandfather, King Carl XVI Gustaf, several years ago.

Princess Madeleine’s announcement comes at one of the busiest times for the Swedish royal family who have just led celebrations for their country’s national day.
