Dutch Command Materiel and IT Commander Jan Willem Hartman explained that the selection of the​ Orka ‌class was the‌ result ​of a comprehensive procurement process and was deemed to ​be the most suitable replacement.

The first two‌ submarines are anticipated to be delivered by 2034.
