At the Partisan-Fighter Monument in Gorica, wreaths were laid by delegations of SOBNOR Montenegro, OBNOR 1941-1945 Capital City of Podgorica, Danilovgrad, Zeta and Tuza, and the meeting was attended by delegations of political parties, deputies and councilors, delegations of embassies, and delegations of the War Association 90/91, SKOJ of Montenegro.

The President of SOBNOR of Montenegro, Radojica Radojević, is the Day of Victory over Fascism and the Day of Europe to all citizens of Podgorica and Montenegro, “with the desire to forever remember these bright dates from our historical past.”

Radojević said that May 9 “is celebrated by all freedom-loving people and nations of the world”, and that the commemoration of this date is organized “in memory of the hundreds of thousands of civilians and soldiers who died” in the battles for the liberation of Europe, Montenegro and Podgorica.

“This date reminds us of the magnificent victory of the anti-Hitler coalition over the greatest evil in the history of mankind – fascism. We laid flowers and paid tribute to them in an unforgettable way here in this honorable and proud place on this day,” he adds..

Radojević says that May 9 is a symbol of the heroism and unity of the people who defended the world from fascism and the day when “with special piety we remember all those who gave their lives for the defense of humanity and basic civilizational values.”

“In the fight against fascism, the Montenegrin people made enormous sacrifices for freedom. The post-war census determined a total of 18.573 dead fighters, victims of fascist terror and civilian victims from Montenegro. Today, we remember with pride and reverence the fighters of the Podgorica region, who were led by 52 People’s heroes from this city were an example of courage and heroism on the battlefield. 1.500 fighters gave their lives on the altar of freedom. About 5.000 fighters participated in the NOP. They were brave and determined and our people and our country, and because of that we still remember with pride the role of Montenegro in the anti-fascist coalition and our contribution to the great victory of humanity over Nazism,” said Radojević.

“Inspired by the determination to defend their enslaved homeland to the last, inspired by a deep faith in the victory of their just cause, the fighters of our army have dealt merciless and fierce blows to the common enemy since 1941. Their immortal deeds will live forever in the hearts of our people and their future generations , while the scenes of the famous battles on Sutjeska, Zelengora, and Neretva are eternal monuments to the heroism of your and our fallen comrades.” To those victims and their courage we owe the freedom we have today and that is why, even today, we are united around the idea of ​​anti-fascism, the idea that today is the heritage of advanced humanity former homelands that fought, lived, died and fought for the freedom of our country,” said the president of SOBNOR of Montenegro.
