Data published last Thursday by Eurostat shows the average hourly cost for labour in the European Union was EUR 28.90 in 2020. The country with the highest labour cost was Luxembourg at €47.70.
The next-highest labour costs could be found in Denmark, €45.70, and Belgium at €40.50.
The lowest labour cost was in Bulgaria at €6.60, Romania at €8.20; and Hungary at €9.80.
Eurostat noted the highest levels recorded for Luxembourg were 7.3 times the lowest recorded for Bulgaria, while in 2016, the highest levels recorded for Denmark were 9.5 times the lowest (for Bulgaria).
