For something a little more left-field, time your visit to coincide with the 45th annual Vilnius Christmas Run on December 9, when competitors will pound the streets of the old town clad in elf and Santa costumes.
Or, if you happen to be there the following week, head to the Design Square Christmas market (December 13-17) where hand-crafted jewellery, fashion and home accessories made by local designers provide a splendid alternative to the usual snowglobe and nutcracker souvenirs. It’s a great place to pick up Christmas gifts, too – each one artistic, authentic and just a little bit different. Much like the city it came from.
