The Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe is currently considering how to continue the process regarding the admission of Kosovo to that organization.

This was said at the press conference by the outgoing chairman of the Committee of Ministers, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Liechtenstein, Dominik Hasler.

“Kosovo was mentioned several times at the meeting, in the ministers’ presentations. We did everything we could to speed up that process and the Committee of Ministers is currently considering how to proceed,” said Hasler, answering a journalist’s question about the Kosovo application and whether mentioned at today’s meeting of foreign ministers from 46 member countries of that organization.

In mid-April, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) adopted a recommendation on accepting Kosovo’s application for membership in that organization, on which the Committee of Ministers makes the final decision.

As Vijesti previously announced, France and some other countries informally asked for a postponement of the decision on the admission of Kosovo because the Union of Serbian Municipalities (USO), as agreed by the first Brussels Agreement signed by Belgrade and Pristina in 2013, has not yet been established there.

At today’s meeting of the Committee of Ministers, Lithuania took over the rotating chairmanship of the Committee from Liechtenstein.
