Valérie Hayer, a French lawyer and politician who has been serving as a Member of the European Parliament (MEP) since 2019, is the Renaissance Party’s candidate in the elections. On the other side, far-right National Rally party’s (RN) Jordan Bardella is seeking to unseat Hayer.

Meanwhile, President Marcon’s Renaissance party is in a damage-control mode after opinion polls showed that Hayer is lagging behind Bardella by more than 15 points.

Sunday’s elections in France will be held after numerous debates and rallies over the past few weeks. More than 50 million French voters are expected to cast their ballots Sunday. There are 81 candidates from 38 different parties contesting in the elections. Notably, France sends the second most number of MEPs to the European Parliament, after Germany with 96.
