City breaks are a big hit in the UK, thanks to our close proximity to a variety of countries. But if you’ve already ticked off the usual suspects like Paris and Rome, you might be on the hunt for some fresh inspiration.
Nestled on the Balkan Peninsula in south-eastern Europe, Bosnia and Herzegovina has long been an under-the-radar holiday spot among Brits. However, viral videos showcasing the serene beauty of this country could soon change that.
Travel influencer Nessa recently took to TikTok to share a video of the iconic Kravica Waterfalls – one of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s most renowned tourist attractions. Visitors can take a dip in the emerald waters, surrounded by cascades tumbling from lush greenery.
Just remember to get there early to avoid the crowds.
Bosnia and Herzegovina is also home to the sacred Krizevac mountain, which according to legend, was where the Virgin Mary appeared to six children to deliver a message of peace and prayer.
Regardless of your faith, a four-hour hike up the rocky terrain will reward you with some truly stunning views. And for those seeking a bit more adventure, the four-mile-long Vjetrenica Cave is a must-visit.
This subterranean wonder is adorned with 15th-century tombstones at the entrance and unique rock formations.
Scores of travel lovers took to the comments section lauding the destination, with many declaring it as the ‘most beautiful place on Earth’. One fan enthused: “Been here, it was absolutely magical. I’d love to visit Bosnia again.”
Another chimed in with: “Bosnia is something else.” While another labelled the spot as ‘Heaven on Earth’.

You can fly direct to Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina, from Luton and Stansted airports. If you’re not set on specific dates, you could pick up an absolute steal – with flights as low as £18 in October.
Once there, you can choose to stay in Sarajevo, an ideal base if you’re looking to hire a car and explore – or get a transfer to Mostar, a picturesque city known for its historical bridge and mountainous vistas. Lodging in either location can be customized according to your preferences.
As an example, you could get a four-star hotel offering free breakfast in Sarajevo for about £100 per night (price based on two adults sharing from October 1-3). A hotel of similar quality in Mostar will cost slightly less for those same dates.
