Meet Europe's newest royal baby - and she's got a rather impressive title

There’s a brand new royal baby and although her parents have only announced her short first name, she has a rather regal sounding title to go with it.

The newest royal in Europe is the third child of Prince Amadeo of Belgium and his wife, Elisabetta. The Belgian Royal Family announced the safe arrival of their little girl on official social media on September 4th 2023.

The baby, a second daughter for the couple, arrived on September 2nd 2023 and has been named Alix. She is a sister for Anna Astrid, 7, and Maximilian, 4.

In the short announcement, the family said that Alix weighed 3.4 kilos at birth and both she and her mother are doing well.

Baby Alix is a third grandchild for Princess Astrid, younger sister of King Philippe of the Belgians, and her husband, Prince Lorenz. Her descent from Lorenz means that the new royal takes the title of Archduchess Alix of Austria-Este.

She is also a third great grandchild for King Albert and Queen Paola of Belgium.

Lydia Starbuck is a pen name of June Woolerton who has written extensively on royal history. Her book, A History of Royal Jubilees, is available now. She is also the author of a popular cosy mystery, All Manner of Murder.
