Green transport and the transformation of the pyramid have attracted the attention of the well-known German journalist and blogger Leo Fellinger, who visited the Albanian capital recently.
In his article, he singles out, among other things, the change of Tirana, while emphasizing the mixture of Ottoman, communist and modern heritage of recent years.
“I traveled from Salzburg to Vienna to the airport by electric train, and here in Tirana I only used an electric taxi. The mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, started the initiative because there were over 800 licensed taxis in the Albanian capital, all of which produced 3200 tons of carbon per year. In a major effort, 60% of the fleet was replaced with electric vehicles on the road. That’s not all, urban transport is also expected to change, with a fleet of electric buses soon on the streets of the capital, which will also bring a significant reduction in environmental pollution,” says blogger Leo Fellinger.
The German journalist points out that the Pyramid is an example of how a building built in honor of the dictator Enver Hoxha has already been transformed and serves as an information technology center.
“The pyramid of Tirana was built to honor a dictator, a rich extravagance in a country that rationed bread, where people could barely feed themselves. Whereas, today the pyramid is a youth IT center for technologies with a focus on computer programming, robotics and start-ups”, adds Fellinger.
On his visit to Tirana, what draws Leo Fellinger’s attention is the street art and murals, which are found everywhere in the capital.
He writes that urban art has exploded in recent years thanks to some local artists and a festival that has managed to bring internationally known artists to Albania.
Culinary is another reason that brings foreign visitors to our country. The German journalist mentions hostels, businesses that have flourished in recent years.
During his first visit to Albania, the German blogger shows his positive impressions of the Albanians, whom he describes as quite friendly, while on his tour he also visited the north of the country.
“Between the rivers Drin, Buna, Kir and Lake Shkodra, is one of the oldest cities in Albania, Shkodra. We are 120 km from Tirana and very close to the border with Montenegro. This city is also the center of Catholicism in the country and the inhabitants of the old city impressively demonstrate to the rest of the world every day that peaceful coexistence between different religions is possible,” says the German blogger.
At the end of the article, the journalist suggests to his compatriots that if they want to try something different in Europe, Albania is the right place.
