‘Reporters Without Borders’ ranks Albania last in Europe for Media Freedom, Prime Minister Rama does not oppose it

'Reporters Without Borders' ranks Albania last in Europe for Media

On May 3 every year, on World Press Freedom Day, the organization that protects the freedom and rights of journalists, Reporters Without Borders (RSF) publishes the World Press Freedom Index. In Europe, Albania ranks last.

In the Index that includes 180 countries, Albania ranks 99th. Kosovo ranks 75th.

The organization “Reporters Without Borders” estimates that the environment for freedom of the press in Albania “is difficult”.

Prime Minister Edi Rama reacted with a post on the social network “X” after the news, where he wrote that measures will be taken to improve the media environment, to protect the freedom of information, to fight disinformation and to strengthen the rights of journalists.

Rama’s post: The issue of freedom of information is one of the most important today, so I want to thank Reporters Without Borders for their in-depth report. We will analyze it carefully, consult with all stakeholders and take further action to improve the media environment, protect freedom of information, fight disinformation and strengthen the rights of journalists. We are deeply troubled by the main finding of the report: that media freedom is under threat all over the world. The Albanian government is ready to undertake all necessary responsibilities to help break this trend.
