Ghana’s Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia asserts that holding fair and transparent elections in Africa is crucial for maintaining peace and political stability on the continent.
This was emphasized on Thursday August 8, 2024, during the official opening of the Democrat Union of Africa (DUA Forum 2024) in Accra. Organized by the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung and the New Patriotic Party (NPP), this high-level meeting was themed “Strengthening Democratic Institutions for Political stability: crafting Africa’s response,” and brought together diverse participants from Africa and beyond.
During his keynote address at the event, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, who is also the presidential candidate for NPP in 2024 asserted that Ghana’s democratic journey exemplified nurturing democratic institutions. He highlighted transparent and credible electoral processes as well as peaceful transitions of power between political parties over three decades as hallmarks of Ghana’s democracy.
Reflecting further on the theme of this year’s forum, he stressed that robust democratic frameworks play a pivotal role in fostering political stability and socioeconomic progress.
