The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism, Tanzania, Dr. Hassan Abbas, said that the tourist business was impacted by the pandemic in a negative manner; however, fresh
investments and the documentary produced by the government on the Royal Tour have assisted in improving the performance.

Between January and March 2023, there were over 400,000 visitors compared to 250,000 in the first quarter of last year, the UNWTO has ranked Tanzania second, after Ethiopia.

Dr Abbas said that this is an excellent measure in tourism as they have come out of the pandemic situation and in next to no time they will let go fresh data on tourist numbers for the half-year. They carry on thanking the Tanzanians for constant investing in tourism, as many good things are coming up.

He stated that Tanzania has been selected as a member of the council accountable for growing global tourism plans along with the UNWTO’s vice-chairman.

The ministry’s tourism head, Dr. Thereza Mugobi, explained during the conference that Tanzania has got many lessons that might help in transforming the travel sector. These include developing participation of
the private sector and making extra tourism investments into infrastructure. Dr. Mugobi additionally highlighted the importance of the problem of hospitality in heartening up tourists to return for leisure travel.
