Nairobi County Unveils â£3rd Edition of Africa Tchoukball Championships

The â¤3rd edition of the Africa Tchoukball Championships was recently announced by Nairobi City County†Secretary, Godfrey Akumali, and County Chief Officer Sports, Oscar ​Igaida. The event will take place at the‌ Kasarani gymnasium and will bring together 22 countries from across Africa to⢠showcase their talent in Tchoukball.

Participating Countries
Countries participating in the championships include Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Cameroon, Benin, Rwanda, DRC â£Congo, Botswana, Togo,Ghana Chad,Ethiopia,Zimbabwe,Zambia,Sierra Leone,Egypt,Madagascar,South Sudan,and Algeria.

Promoting Unity and Sportsmanship
Tchoukball is â¤a relatively new ball game ​in‌ the country and aims to promote⣠unity and ​sportsmanship. According to Godfrey Akumali: “Our critical mandate as the â¤county sports department â€is†to grow the sport,nurture â€talent,and provide ​opportunities â¢for Nairobi†youth to grow.”

The Game of Tchoukball
Tchoukball is a unique sport where either team can score at either end of the court. The objective â¤for the team with possession of the ball is to throw it ​at the rebound surface after a maximum of three passes. After hitting the rebound surface,the ball must touch outside⢠of a⣠forbidden zone to score a point.

The Future
Oscar â£Igaida stated: “We look forward to introducing⣠this ball game⣠in our county schools and growing its following.We hope to qualify for world championships in â¤the near future.”
