Transfrontier park on South Africa-Namibia border gets upgrade

South African National Parks (SANParks) has announced major upgrades to accommodation facilities in the |Ai-|Ais/Richtersveld Transfrontier Park, a remote desert reserve straddling South Africa and Namibia. The month-long project, scheduled for July 2024, focuses on chalets at Sendelingsdrift Rest Camp and Gannakouriep Wilderness Camp.

Sendelingsdrift, designed like a mining camp, serves as the main entry point to the South African side and offers ten chalets and camping areas. The more isolated Gannakouriep, accessible only by 4×4 vehicles, features four chalets.

SANParks assures visitors that the works will not affect booked accommodation. The improvements aim to enhance visitor experience in this unique cross-border conservation area, known for its stark beauty and cultural significance to local communities.
