Mauritania names AK-47 on Afcon team sheet

Mauritania’s lineup for the tournament opener against Burkina Faso caught everyone’s attention, not for their strategy but for former Fulham star Aboubakar Kamara’s eye-catching nickname.

Fans were surprised when Kamara was listed as “AK-47” on Mauritania’s team sheet.

While his teammates were identified by their last names, Kamara’s nickname, “AK-47”, was what stood out.

The reactions on social media went from shock to laughter.

Some couldn’t believe a player would be officially referred to by such a name, with comments like “HIS NAME IS WHAT?!” and “There’s no way a player is going by AK-47.”

Another fan humorously noted, “I’m crying, look at number 27’s name.”

Kamara, who played for Fulham from 2017 to 2021, has had a mixed reaction from fans.

One supporter even called him “one of the worst” players in the Premier League, finding the AK-47 comparison doubtful.

Despite the attention around his nickname, Kamara’s participation in the game was brief.

He left the field after just 28 minutes due to an injury. Mauritania eventually lost the match 1-0 to a stoppage-time goal by Bertrand Traore of Aston Villa.

Kamara, now 28 and playing for Al-Jazira in Abu Dhabi, has made major strides in his international career, earning 14 caps and scoring seven goals since his debut in 2021.
