Robertsport, Liberia: A Surfer’s Delight | Life

These images are being published just minutes ahead of a planned internet outage across West Africa, including Liberia. Question: for 10 hours straight, without internet connectivity, what would you find yourself doing? 

You can thank us for asking. From the looks of it, these guys have quite the suggestion. Surfing in Robertsport, rated as one of the top 10 surfing spots in the world and, according to those who know, the place has the best waves in West Africa!

In this photo essay, Photojournalist Carielle Doe captures incredible shots of these African surfers at the Liberia Leg of the first-ever Africa Surf Tour, as they challenge the waves — and each other — near lumps of volcanic rocks sticking out of the water.

The Africa Surf Tour is a multi-nation tournament an the brainchild of one of Africa’s most famous surfers, Oumar Seye.
