Gambia, Cuba celebrate 45 years diplomatic ties

The anniversary was led by the Ambassador of Cuba in Gambia, Ruben G. Abelenda who shared words of gratitude as both countries continue to unite in the defence of their sovereignty and independence.

Ambassador Ruben G. Abelenda said Cuba would keep all and forever keep the relationship between the collaboration with Africa even if they have economic problems.

He further noted that Cuba would continue to support and cooperate with The Gambia, especially in the field of Health and wherever their assistance is needed.

“The Gambia and Cuba have stood together in defence of their sovereignty and independence, in favour of global peace, unity, multilateralism, and a better world for all,” Ambassador Abelenda pointed out.

According to Ambassador Abelenda, the Caribbean island has maintained for almost three decades its cooperation in the field of health with this grateful people (Gambia), who daily have words of praise for doctors, graduates and technicians who come to this African land from the other side of the Atlantic Ocean to provide health care, heal and save lives.

Seyaka Sonko, ambassador to Cuba, extended appreciation to Cuba for their generous solidarity, and noted that they would join those advocating to lift the sanction against Cuba. “Listing Cuba among those sponsoring terrorism without any genuine proof is unjustifiable,” he said.

Other speakers included Modou Grant, president of Gambia-Cuba Friendship Association.
