In a context of strengthening South-South cooperation, Algeria is emerging as a regional leader in the mining sector. A Congolese delegation, led by Jean Romuald Mombo, Inspector General of the Ministry of Mining Industries and Geology, began a working visit to Algeria on July 10, 2024, demonstrating the growing attraction of the Algerian model in managing and developing mineral resources.

This visit, which follows that of the Algerian Minister of Energy and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, to Congo-Brazzaville last May, is part of a dynamic of sharing expertise and strengthening capacities between African countries. Algeria, with its experience in managing its natural resources, positions itself as a partner of choice for African countries wishing to develop their mining sector in a sustainable and responsible manner.

At the heart of this collaboration is a particular interest in the Algerian system of technical and administrative control in the mining sector. Mohamed Boudali, Secretary General of the Algerian Ministry of Energy and Mines, emphasized Algeria’s willingness to share its know-how, particularly in terms of legislation and environmental regulation.

This cooperation goes beyond the simple transfer of knowledge. It encompasses crucial aspects such as the management of geological infrastructure, research, exploration, production, and processing of mineral resources. Moreover, particular emphasis is placed on training and human capital development, key elements to ensure the sustainability and efficiency of mining projects.

The visit of the Congolese delegation, which includes meetings with various Algerian agencies and specialized companies, illustrates a holistic approach to the development of the mining sector. This approach could serve as a model for other African countries seeking to optimize the management of their natural resources.

By positioning itself as a center of expertise and training for the continent, Algeria not only contributes to the economic development of its African neighbors but also strengthens its diplomatic and economic influence in the region. This strategy of South-South cooperation in the mining sector could well redefine development dynamics in Africa, promoting more responsible and beneficial exploitation of the continent’s natural resources.
